The Rare Earth Industry: Where Do You Fit?

By Ed Richardson - USMMA/Thomas & Skinner

Recently, I attended the TMS 2013 conference in Toronto. It's clear that the rare earth industry is well into consolidation mode. This comes near the end of a wild roller coaster ride for the rare earth industry over the past three years.

The curious thing about the rare earth industry now is that the companies operating in this space are all very different. In fact, they are so different, there are some interesting ways to organize and classify them. For instance, one way to think of them is in terms of the lands of Disney's Magic Kingdom. <read more>

Flawed Diamonds Promise Sensory Perfection

From brain to heart to stomach, the bodies of humans and animals generate weak magnetic fields that a supersensitive detector could use to pinpoint illnesses, trace drugs - and maybe even read minds. Sensors no bigger than a thumbnail could map gas deposits underground, analyze chemicals, and pinpoint explosives that hide from other probes. <read more>
